This class provides basic information about the birth process, comfort measures and medical procedures. We also suggest that families also enroll in the Breastfeeding Basics class. This class is recommended for any expectant mother and her support person (coach/partner). It is recommended that this class be taken not before the 32nd week of pregnancy. Bring two pillows along with a snack, a water bottle, and a sack lunch for the half hour break. This series of classes, taken in the 3rd trimester, includes information such as anatomy during pregnancy, signs of labor, and timing contractions. Options for labor, positioning, coping skills, stress management and relaxation for the expectant mother and her partner are also covered. Unique coping strategies are also discussed and practiced. Additionally, information on pain medications, medical procedures and cesarean birth is covered. A tour of the unit is also included.

Class will be held in Long's Peak Room 12th Floor A Tower take the elevators to the 11th floor, there is a door to your right that says it has an alarm on it. Go through this door and up the stairs. Take the stairs all the way up and the door to the room is on your right.

Other modalities for comfort will also be explored, including aromatherapy, acupressure, massage, positioning, hot/cold packs and hydrotherapy. This class is appropriate for parents seeking both natural and medicated childbirth. It is an excellent add-on class to the traditional childbirth series, express class or as a refresher course. This class is best taken between 30-36 weeks of pregnancy.
